In order to facilitate the citizens and keep them safe, the District Bahawalpur Police conducts numerous awareness campaigns time and again. The Bahawalpur Police educates the locals so they do not fall for hoaxes and know how to verify important information for instance, they are made familiar with how to verify their CNIC number and SIM ownerships. Moreover, the people are taught how to react in emergency circumstances.

CNIC Verification through SMS

National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), in collaboration with mobile phone companies, launched a service for the instant verification of identity cards via sending of the CNIC number through an SMS. SMS containing the CNIC number could be sent on 7000 using a mobile phone, thus enabling the sender to get the name and father’s name of that particular CNIC number. At the moment this service is available for Mobilink, Telenor and Warid customers while Ufone and Zong are in process to get listed.

SMS Services (7000, 8400, 8300, 8500)
NADRA has introduced the SMS based tracking and verification for most of the projects. This facilitates the beneficiaries in checking their eligibility for each program without having to reach the centers. A few of the facilities are as follows:
8500 – Prime Minister National Health Program
7000 – SMS based citizen verification
8400 – Tracking identity applications
9888 – Flood Beneficiaries verification, Watan Card
9777 – Pakistan Card

In response, you will get the detail of total SIMs against the given CNIC along with name of the mobile company. In case there is any discrepancy, the user should visit the concerned Customer Service Center to get the data corrected. To find out the total number of SIMs registered against your CNIC, enter your CNIC and click Submit. SIM Ownership Verification

The process to get a new SIM has undergone many changes. The franchises are following the PTA guidelines strictly as well. You need to provide the original CNIC to get a SIM. The franchises are connected online (and via their mobile phones) to NADRA systems to verify the CNIC. Individuals can send a blank message to 667 to verify their ownership. The response includes the name of the person and the NIC number. If you just purchased a new SIM then the data is not available for few days and you’ll get a message with unknown name and 1111 as NIC.

Emergency Situation

In case of any emergency or offence while you are on the street or in office, stay calm and try to behave normal until the environment is clear. If you are on the safe place, try to memorize the criminal’s identity. If you are out of sight of the criminals, call 15 to inform the Police about the incident and do not dispose of any physical evidence e.g. hairs, blood stains or skin samples.

Commercial Area

Hire security guards only from registered agencies. Use transport for carrying all valuable things. If you regularly carry money, or any other precious product, change the route and time randomly. Use CCTV cameras and other technologies for precautions, if possible. It is important to inform the police about any suspicious happening or unclaimed object found in any suspicious circumstance.

Double Your Money Hoaxes

The case of double shah is a famous one in this regard and can be taken as an example. You are offered to have your money double in one month or less. Some companies may even show that they are legally registered but they are not reliable as even registered companies are not allowed to promote and run any such schemes.

Citizens' Safety

Most of the crimes are committed by a person known to the victim. He/they may be a relative, servant, maid, housekeeper or watchman etc. It is strongly recommended to verify the identity and past history of your servants before employing. Never discuss financial matters in the presence of a servant. Treat them nicely and don’t penalize them on their little mistakes. Do not allow any of the relatives or friends of your servant to visit your house. If at all he has any frequent visitor, verify his antecedents from police and try to keep the contact details of such persons. Inform your neighbors, if you are staying alone. Only work with reputable business organizations and be suspicious of offers from unknown contractors to do home repairs.
